Configurable USB Loader support site
The purpose of USB Loaders is to allow you to rip your games to an external USB hard drive and then load them from there. Running games from an external hard drive means less strain on your Wii's optical drive, faster loading times and no need to swap discs when changing games. Configurable USB Loader has the most features, very customisable with an
easy to use interface, and well maintained. It is so customisable in
fact that it has a separate PC application to help set all the available
options (but this will be explained better later).
At time of writing, the latest version is cfg v61.

What you need
Installation
- Download the latest version of Configurable USB Loader, unzip the cfgXX.zip folder and copy the contents of the inSDRoot to your SD card or USB hdd. Also create a folder named wbfs on the USB hdd.
- Install the forwarder using Multi-Mod Manager (usage for wad installation can be found in the how to softmod guide). Although this is optional, I recommend doing it.
- Insert the USB hard drive into the Wii using the port closest to the edge and launch the USB Loader Forwarder Channel from the Wii System Menu.
- Configurable
USB Loader will now launch and detect the hard drive - the games list
will be empty as no games have yet been installed.
- Insert a disc into the Wii and press the + button on the Wii remote to begin installing it, repeating for additional games.
- Choose a game from the list and enjoy!
Now run Configurable USB Loader either from the Homebrew Channel or the forwarder channel on the System Menu dashboard. The app should be set to find your USB hdd partition automatically.
Updating
- Offline : Download the latest version of the cfgXX.dol file (no need for the full zip file), rename to boot.dol and overwrite the existing file in the \usb-loader\apps folder.
- Online : Press the 1 button twice to enter the Global Options screen, scroll down to Search for updates and push right on the D-pad. Select the updated version from the list of available versions and press A. The newer version will be installed and you will be asked to restart the loader.
Note: This can also be used to downgrade the version. If you are having problems with a particular version of the Configurable USB Loader try using this method to install a different one.
Basic Usage
- Press + to install a game, press - to uninstall a game
- Press A to start a game, press 1 to view the Game Options screen.
- Press 1 twice to view the Global Options screen.
- Press B to switch GUI / console views
- Press 2 on the games list to switch between favourites and all games (a game can be set as a favourite on the Game Options screen for that game, and will show up as starred in the games list).
Additional Settings for Configurable USB LoaderConfigurable
USB Loader is, well, configurable and so you can use the Configurator
Tool for Windows to create/edit the config.txt file. It has a lot of options for setting most (if not all) of Configurable USB Loaders options, but for now most can be ignored. Settings to note: - Global Options 3 - write_playlog = 1
This
allows Configurable USB Loader to write to the Wii's playlog (that one
in the System Menu that shows you what you've played and for how long)
so you can see what you've played and for how long. - Global Options 4 - return_to_channel = UCXF
By
default, when you exit a game launched from Configurable USB Loader you
will be taken back to the System Menu. This options automatically reloads back into CFG USB Loader so you can choose another game. This ID is of the official forwarder, if you install a different forward substitute the ID for that one.
Although
this is the easiest way to set global settings, some games may require a
tweak which can be done in the game options menu from within the app
itself. Select the game and press 1 once, set the option and press 2 to
save. Global options can be accessed by pressing 1 twice. If a game freezes or black screens when loading try changing the IOS in the game options menu from 249 to 250 - although the need for this has been minimalised (if not made redundant) by the new versions of cIOS rev21d2x-6
